I think she got into the theater as fast as she could because she didn't want to be asked about the snub for "Best Director." I could be wrong about that, I will check YouTube and see if they have video. She DID speak to the press when she arrived with Jim a few years later and she stayed on the red carpet for a little while, although she was one of the last to arrive. The year that "POT" was nominated the red carpet was structured differently than now. It look like she was going into the theatre but it wasn't like when she arrived at the VV. At the Oscars she didn't seem to linger but she was definitely prepared to be seen and waved to the fans and the photographers and I she had her handsome son to show off.

I remember at the "Yentl" premiere in Los Angeles we all went to see her...and she got out of the limo, RAN to the theater and Marty made her go back and wave to the fans. She was a nervous wreck that night. As for the POT year, you're right -- the red carpet wasn't the way it is now. I remember when she came with Brolin, she caused a sensation. Every year the show has stand-ins rehearse as to where they will sit, when they will enter the stage, when they will exit, etc. Then when the star arrives for the final dress rehearsal, they can be put in very quickly for a seamless flow. This isn't unusual at all.
