'Love Is The Answer' - New Studio Album Coming September 2009
NEW YORK, June 22 NY-Columbia-Records Artist's First New Studio Collection Since 2005 Features Intimate Jazz Settings by Diana Krall & Arrangements by Johnny Mandel Love Is The Answer Available Everywhere Tuesday, September 29 NEW YORK, June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Columbia Records proudly announces the release of Love Is The Answer, the eagerly-awaited new studio album from Barbra Streisand, available everywhere on Tuesday, September 29. The first full-length collection of new studio recordings from eight-time Grammy award winner Barbra Streisand since 2005's Guilty Pleasures, and first new Barbra Streisand album since Live In Concert 2006, Love Is The Answer presents the artist as a cabaret and jazz singer of emotional clarity, depth and maturity, offering the listener a warm and intimate selection of late night meditations on love's powers, heartbreaks and solaces. Love Is The Answer provided an opportunity for Streisand to work for the first time with the Grammy-winning Canadian jazz artist Diana Krall (piano) and her quartet (guitar, bass, drums) who brought a refined and sensual poignancy to the album's spare and subtle accompaniments. Rounding out the album's smoky after hours ambience with his sublime orchestrations is the legendary songwriter ("The Shadow of Your Smile") and Grammy-winning arranger Johnny Mandel (who worked with Streisand on her 1993 Back to Broadway album and arranged/co-produced Krall's 1998 Grammy-winning When I Look In Your Eyes). According to the RIAA, Barbra Streisand is the #1 best selling female recording artist in history and the only woman to make the Top 10 all time best selling artists list, which includes Elvis Presley and The Beatles. Over the course of her career, Streisand has recorded 50 gold, 30 platinum and 13 multi-platinum albums. An artist of unparalleled accomplishments in multiple entertainment fields, Streisand has made her mark as an award winning actress of stage and screen, recording artist, concert performer, movie producer, film director, screenwriter and songwriter. Having earned two Oscars (Best Actress and Best Song), five Emmys, 11 Golden Globes, 10 Grammys including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement and Grammy Legend Awards, a special Tony Award (in 1970 as "Star of the Decade"), two Cable Ace and three Peabody awards, she is the only performer to hold honors from all of those institutions. In addition, Streisand is a recipient of the American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award, America's National Medal of Arts and France's Legion of Honor. In December 2008 she became the first female director to receive the prestigious Kennedy Center Honor. " That's great news, thanks for the heads up. September 29 is not that far away and i can't wait! No track listing yet, but i guess it's a matter of time before that surfaces too! Michael |

With any luck some tracks will leak and they'll be forced to release it early!
I pray to God that they don't do what they did for "Guilty Pleasures" and leak half of the album on various sites! That took away the excitement (and the temptation was too much!) Let's also hope for a physical single. Alex

First Female Director to receive the Kennedy Center Honors -- wow... that speaks a lot of Barbra, she should read this press release, it may get her pumped up
to direct her new project :-)

Yeah, that is the date of our 25th anniversary. While my wife does not share my passion for BJS (although I do remind her it was she who made me go see ASIB
and that's what started it all) she is fond of her early works. Here's hoping this will be a CD we can both enjoy.

OMFG!!!!! I am so excited. Between this, the Bergman album and Little Fockers- what a summer for 2009!
I have been very ill lately and Barbra is the only thing that got me through my operation and hospital stays!! Can't wait to hear this new album. |

Taken directly from "Make Someone Happy" -- it all fits.It also fits in I believe with a line from her Father's letter. Great title! Can't wait! "The more I live, the more I learn . . . The more I learn, the more I realize . . . the less I know." |

Alexandra Elizabeth, I teach young kids who often say things they don't really mean or understand. Do you know what the four letters of exclamation you
began your last post mean?

A Tough Opening for " #1"...
|
With Sean Diddy Combs releasing Last Train To Paris and Pearl Jam releasing Backspacer just one week earlier, ( on
Tuesday-Sept 22 ), it will be difficult for this to debut at #1 even if there is weak competition for the actual release date of the 29th...

Thanks Billy | ||

I was wondering about the other releases on Sept. 29. Does anyone know if hers is the only debut by a major artist that week?
What with Mariah Carey (Aug. 25), Whitney Houston (Sept. 1) plus the ones Billy mentions below, it's going to be a crowded field. I guess Sony felt it was their best week to hit #1 and still make the Grammy deadline. Somehow, I doubt Sean Combs still has much of a following (not my demograhic, so I could be way off base), but I could see where Pearl Jam will attract the Gen Y / late-boomer crowds. I just hope Barbra's album gets great reviews and strong word of mouth to attract buyers beyond her core fan base. If that happens, I believe sales will greatly surpass her other albums from the past decade. This album needs to generate interest beyond the fan boards. Michael H |

So far, there is very little info regarding releases on the 29th; many sites have not even added Streisand to their line-up as of yet.
I totally agree that to be a strong commercial success, this project MUST appeal beyond the internet fan set or it will pretty much evaporate overnight, saleswise. As of today, the only other "official" release for the 29th is Lynayrd Skynyrd Guns & Gods, but other releases slated for 2009 that have not been scheduled as of yet include new collections by Aerosmith, Christina Aguilera, Marc Anthony, GooGoo Dolls, 50 Cent, and Alice In Chains...and there are quite a bit more; anyone of these can be dropped on the 29th so it will really interesting to see how it all pans out...

Why September? | ||
|
This is now listed on Amazon, but with no price or track listing.
I wonder why the CD is being released during one of the busiest times of the year for new CDs? Perhaps Sony expects stronger sales during this period. It's doubtful that it will go number 1 at this time. If Sony was looking for a number 1 CD they would have chosen a different release date. You can have strong sales without going to number 1 during busy sales periods and, during slow periods, you can have a number 1 CD with weak sales. |

Well, I think Sony wanted to maximize sales at the expense of the Grammy deadline. So many big pop acts are releasing product before the Grammy deadline that
Sony was afraid Barbra would not garner the sales she deserves for this very special recording. Whitney Houston's comeback is going to dominate the charts
(as well as the press) for the first couple of weeks in September. Even if the Houston CD is crap, it's going to enter at #1 - the curiosity factor is huge
and I am sure Clive Davis has masterminded an incredible ad campaign to entice buyers from all age groups.
At the end of September, things begin to cool down and Barbra's release date is perfect for her -- Barbra will have the adult pop/standard market pretty much to herself and the attention will be on HER. And that's the way Our Lady of Malibu likes it.
I heard that she sat for new portraits weeks ago -- so no Terry O'Neill retreads, a la "The Movie Album." Sony is going to give this a big push and word says that Barbra sounds absolutely great. I think this project challenged her in ways that her other recent studio recordings have not...when BJS is not in her comfort zone and is a tad nervous, she does her best work, IMO. She has something to prove again -- and I think she will triumph in spectacular fashion. |

I don't know if the album will hit No1....but of course i ll be thrilled if it does. Top 5 or top 10 is good enough for me, but of course from your mouths
to God's ear...

Cabaret and Jazz singer?
|
Perhaps the poor sales of the 2006 Concert CD is giving Barbra the push she needs to make a CD that forces her out of her comfort zone both artistically and
promotion-wise. I just hope she doesn't go on TV and say that she doesn't remember any of the song titles on the album!
Did the following phrase in the news release catch anyone's attention: "...presents the artist as a cabaret and jazz singer." I can't imagine Barbra ever referring to herself as a 'cabaret' singer let alone a jazz singer. Perhaps, this is a sign that she is indeed trying something new, yet kind of comfortable. We'll find out on September 29! |
