I burst into tears 30 seconds after she began "Here's To Life." It was all too much!! OMG.
Every song was perfection...listen to the way she sings "around" in "Make Someone Happy." Incredible. "If You Go Away" was one of the most shattering performances I've ever seen Barbra give -- and "Some Other Time" was exquisite. She is doing things with her voice -- especially her upper register -- that she's NEVER done before...it's almost as if she is reinventing herself. I'm really in a state of shock...nothing she has done in the past 20 years on-stage is as sublime as this seminal performance at The Vanguard. She is simply the greatest of all-time. |

Oh my God! One of the best things she has ever done! | ||

WOW!!!! Just watched 5 songs Barbra sang at the VV - and it was what I think many of us had wanted and dreamed of for so many years. Who needs all the big
shows and pyrotechnics? This is what all of us fell in love with 40-50 years ago. And so simple to do - put Barbra with a quartet and a small audience, give
her great and meaty songs she could bite into - and there it is - PERFECT.
Barbra here is so natural - warm, funny, touching, dramatic, gets into the mood of the song immediately. You cannot take your eyes off her. And in her eyes is the wisdom of a lifetime.... I admit during the last years as being critical at times, moping around, thinking what Barbra could have been - had she done this or that - and when watching these clips you see Barbra at her best, the actress and the singer combine - and the result is thrilling - all the great screen roles she never did and wont do anymore are condensed here into songs. I got really overwhelmed. If you go away - made me really tear at the intesity of it and she deserved the standing ovation she received. It is all such a wonderful and triumph performance - One has to compliment everything about this show - the terrific band (with Tamir Handelman at piano, even Barbra rolls her eyes enjoying his playing), the intimite atmosphere, the audience (Everyone just staring at her, their expressions are priceless, like Jim and Jessica Parker). the wonderful filming of it (see - no need to dabble with the editing for 3 years - in two days we got a product that is better than all the overfussing of the 2006 concert). This VV performance must come out on DVD - this is a major milestone in Barbra's career. Wow! Avinu Malkeinu |

Yes, it's AMAZING!!!!! When I watched her do "If You Go Away" -- and that look of desperation in her eyes -- I flashed on Norma at the end of
"Sunset Blvd." To all the doubters...THAT is the way she would do Norma if she decided to do the role. Heartbreaking.

Vernon, you took the words right out of my mouth, albeit, probably stated in a much more eloquent fashion!
From the exquisite way this has been filmed, and from what I had heard from some of the people in the know that night, this will most definitely be a DVD!!! I have a feeling I'm going to like this better than the CD!

Thank you Diana Krall for making this a reality.

Well, I can't stop talking about this appearance! It's BEYOND anything I imagined...there was a critic who said that the spare arrangements allowed her
a platform to really ACT her way through these songs and act she does. No-one does what Barbra does at her peak.
I am still reeling over "If You Go Away"...not to mention that incredible version of "Wee Small Hours." And did you see Sarah Jessica Parker in the front row? She has a glazed smile plastered across her face like she is slowly going into a coma...and I believe there is a shot of Nicole Kidman slumped over the table after entering one. LOL!!!! |

Absolutely brilliant. If You go away is absolutely one of her best performances of anything ever. Some other Time is gorgeous, and one of my very very very
favorite songs so it holds a special place for me. will have to calm down and watch them again. Staggering performance, brilliant musicians behind her.

BSisthebest, that photo is stunning. How could she possibly look that good? Just beautiful.
Her intro to Here's to Life was perfect. If You Go Away was the most riveting, and the most emotional. I love what she was doing with her hands. |

Sublime. The perfect setting, the perfect material, the perfect back-up.
Gosh, I hope she's inspired to give more such performances in such venues. Her voice just really reigns free, with all its expressive capabilities, all its richness, range and depth. Exquisite. Really. |

Well, make sure you click on the Full Screen option when you watch the video. (Press Esc key to go back to normal screen). OMG, those close-ups are too much
and it's much easier to see the audience reaction, too. Who is that attractive brunette woman behind Jim? She's very striking.
After watching all the clips over and over, I have to say that "Make Someone Happy" REALLY grows on you...it's so great and I love that close-up of Nicole who is nearly levitating with excitement. |

This is beyond even my wildest expectations. I too am blown away by the power and presence she radiates in this tiny venue.
Again, I repeat, how could this incredibly gifted artist suffer stage fright? She is so totally in her element in these performances. Maybe being able to see her audience close up wasn't so scary after all? I'm not sure who is responsible for orchestrating all of this -- meaning the marketing campaign, the interviews and the historic return to the VV, but whoever it is.... this is pure genius. Now, it's up to the public to connect and buy the damn album. I say miss it at your own peril. Michael H |

There was a full page ad for LITA in the Sunday NY Times in addition to the cover interview by the classical music critic.
All this, plus her triumphant performance at the VV. You can't buy better publicity. Michael H |
